The Jackson – Moomba pipeline from Jackson in southwest
Queensland to Moomba in north eastern South Australia is aimed at
optimizing the transport of oil from Jackson fields to Santos’
existing Port Bonython facility just north of Adelaide. It
has an initial operational capability to pump
2,880 m3/d (18,000 bpd).
GHD provided Engineering, Procurement and Construction
Management (EPCM) for the oil pipeline and facilities. The
pipeline was designed and constructed to AS 2885.1-2007 which
had only been recently released at the time. It is a
273 km Class 900# DN200 buried steel pipeline and connects
Santos’ Jackson facility to its Moomba facility. The
facilities designed and constructed during this project included
metering stations, pig launching / receiving stations and main line
valves. There are also provisions for multiple future intakes
and additional pumping booster stations to eventually increase the
capacity from the initial 2,880 m3/d
(18,000 bpd) to 5,200 m3/d
(32,700 bpd).
