Wastewater & Stormwater Collection Systems

Share on:

Up to 70 percent of the total value of wastewater infrastructure can be invested in the wastewater collection systems. Optimising these systems to provide the maximum capacity with limited capital spend is becoming more and more important as utilities try to limit rates increases to their customers

GHD has the knowledge base and systems to tackle any wastewater transportation problem – for new systems or upgrading existing assets.

Having designed more than 1000 sewage pump stations and thousands of kilometres of sewers, our industry professionals challenge conventional approaches to establish new and cost-effective benchmarks.

Our services include:

  • Integrated urban water management – to enable efficient use of the scarce water resources in areas of drought
  • Strategic planning – resulting in a more efficient network and a planned upgrades programme
  • Network modelling – to help determine the optimum upgrade or delay upgrades if flows can be rerouted
  • Designing and installing gravity, low pressure and vacuum sewerage schemes in urban or rural areas but where it is expensive to run low flow sewers
  • Designing pumping stations from small flows through to large terminal pump stations
  • Sewer lining design and detailing
  • Special structures such as on/off-line storage to regulate the flows to periods when there is more capacity in the pipes
  • Managing projects to deliver on time and on budget
  • Reducing overflows to comply with consents and to save money
  • Addressing infiltration and inflow which may delay upgrades by providing additional capacity in the network and at the ultimate treatment plant
  • Minimising and rehabilitating sulphide control systems
