ArchCare Fire Protection Upgrades New York

Share on:

GHD provided program management and design of fire protection and electrical engineering services for five (5) existing occupied aged care homes in New York City. Buildings ranged from 5 to 15+ stories, of varying ages and configuration, in a highly congested urban setting. The projects included the design of automatic wet-pipe and dry-pipe sprinkler systems, electric fire pump and electrical power and back-up power and fire alarm improvements including a complete voice addressable fire alarm system throughout one high rise building.

One of the key achievement’s which benefited the owner was to simplify extensive regulations into a design and construction program inclusive of contractor selection and oversight to meet multi-million dollar capital improvements in a very short time schedule. Extensive Fire Department of New York City approvals and consents were achieved in rapid succession and included programming, design, bid/tender and construction administration support. Construction support and detailed project phasing and planning allowed continued occupancy during the work with minimal disruption to residents.
