Materials Technology

Materials Technology

HomeExpertiseEnergy and ResourcesMaterials Technology

There are increasing requirements for asset owners to procure new assets at an optimum balance of capital expenditure and quality to achieve the required service, while minimising operating costs. This may often lead to seeking to further extend the life of the assets.

Numerous studies have shown that corrosion costs nations 3.1 percent of GDP for premature rehabilitation and renewal of assets, and management through corrosion inspection, maintenance and mitigation works, of which 15 to 35 percent can be saved using currently available technologies.

Our materials technology teams provide robust, cost-effective and timely solutions for materials-related issues to all types of infrastructure and building projects. As an employee-owned global business, our teams provide continuity of knowledge of clients' assets over many years and a deep understanding of asset condition and business needs. This enables us to create value through targeted solutions to economically extend service life and minimise loss of asset utility.

Rocks in hand

We provide services including construction material durability and selection, condition assessment and rehabilitation, construction phase quality testing and certification across multiple industries, including commercial and heritage property, water and wastewater, power, oil and gas, industrial, marine, roads, tunnels and bridges.

Our North American laboratory undertakes materials testing and research that provides direct client benefit through improved and innovative materials solutions. We have pioneered the use of many technologies and our global team members have led the development of industry standards and guidelines, such as the Concrete Institute of Australia Z7 Durability series, and the 2017 Water Services Association of Australia manual for selection and application of protective coatings.

We bring a combination of state-of-the-art scientific knowledge and practical engineering skills to our cleints' projects. Our holistic approach to asset durability from concept design, through construction, operation and end-of-life decommissioning allows owners to operate their assets while achieving efficiencies and optimising expenditure.
