Aviation noise is the most significant cause of adverse community reaction related to the operation and expansion of airports. This is expected to remain the case in most regions of the world for the foreseeable future. (ICAO, 2019).
Aviation noise has the potential to affect the health of nearby communities and governments have enacted extensive controls that apply to airport operators, aircraft manufacturers and designers to minimise noise impacts.
GHD has undertaken more than 200 projects across 60+ airfields and airports around the world and is well placed to provide analysis and solutions to alleviate the potential for noise and air quality impacts onto nearby communities.
GHD's global aviation team has created award-winning solutions through proactive design, use of innovative technology and delivering to tight time frames. Key areas that the GHD Air & Noise team focus on include:
- Noise impact assessments
GHD works closely with airports and air navigation service providers to calculate the number above (Nxx), LAmax, Ldn and LAeq noise contours and determine differences in noise impacts on the surrounding population.
- Australian Noise Exposure Forecast (ANEF)
GHD is able to assist federally and non-federally leased airports in the masterplanning process by calculating ANEF contours and identifying areas where noise sensitive developments should be controlled.
- Occupational noise
GHD has extensive experience undertaking occupational noise assessments for airports where airside employees are often exposed to excessive amounts of noise for long periods of time.
- Aircraft noise intrusion assessment for DAs
GHD works with numerous clients seeking to build developments around airports. We undertake noise intrusion assessments and provide detailed reports suitable for a Development Application submission.
- Environmental noise monitoring programs
GHD can provide monthly and quarterly noise monitoring for clients as well as one-off measurements where required for areas experiencing aircraft overflights.
- Building acoustics
GHD provides a range of building acoustic services for all types of airport developments, including airport terminal buildings, airline lounges, conference rooms, or high security rooms for Defence.
