Lower Fitzroy River Infrastructure Project

Together with our clients, Gladstone Area Water Board and SunWater Limited, GHD worked to successfully achieve environmental approval for upgrading the existing Eden Bann Weir and construct and operate a new weir at Rookwood. This was required to secure future regional water supplies in Central Queensland for urban, industrial and agricultural growth and development.

GHD managed a complex environmental assessment process and prepared an environmental impact statement (EIS) in accordance with state and Australian government standards. We also managed project impacts on the receiving environment (including social and cultural values).

Our team developed benchmarking design and management measures to avoid and mitigate impacts on the aquatic environment, through the provision of fish and turtle passage infrastructure and management plans. Downstream impacts on the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage site required us to prepare and undertake water quality modelling to support environmental outcomes of the Reef 2050 Long-term Sustainability Plan.

Committed to the success of our clients, GHD worked to achieve the goals of the project and the wider community.

We recognise our clients’ needs for solutions that harness in-depth knowledge with forward thinking to produce innovative, safe and cost-effective outcomes. We have successfully delivered through all methods of project delivery, from the conventional approach to design and construct, alliances and Engineering Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM).

GHD provides services for the following dam types and appurtenant structures:
