Water Infrastructure Upgrade Program

Share on:

Charters Towers Regional Council (CTRC) required the prioritisation and delivery of a program of critical water infrastructure upgrades in North West Queensland.

CTRC secured funding from the Australian Government’s Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development under the National Stronger Regions Fund to upgrade the water supply network. Previous investigations identified a range of shortfalls with the potable water supply system, however addressing all of these shortfalls was in excess of the available funding.

CTRC engaged GHD to prioritise and evaluate solutions, considering a number of key objectives, including the development of a multi-criteria assessment (MCA) tool.

Through this process of prioritization and evaluation, GHD helped CTRC to define a forward program of works that provided value for money and addressed the most critical network deficiencies. Overall, the program is achieving improvements to water quality, asset management, water supply and water infrastructure.

The Water Infrastructure Upgrade Program has since moved into Phase Two and GHD is providing detailed design, contract documentation and project management services.
