Decarbonisation specialist Malcolm Rushin has been appointed to the newly created position of Australian Future Energy Leader at global professional services firm, GHD. This appointment will see Malcolm play a leading role in assisting clients in navigating the energy transition and cements GHD’s commitment to the global energy shift.

In his new role Malcolm will focus on GHD’s delivery of clean energy strategies, alternatives and solutions to foster the transition to a low carbon future in the energy generation, oil and gas, water, transportation, infrastructure and built environment sectors.

In his previous role as GHD’s Hydrogen Leader for Australia, Malcolm made a significant impact as a trusted advisor helping clients understand their options for reducing their carbon footprint in the emerging hydrogen and future fuels space.

“I am thrilled to be stepping into this role to help support our clients in their transition to a low carbon, affordable, secure energy future,” said Malcolm.

“At GHD we recognise that the global energy transition is not just a transformation of energy systems. It’s a transformation of communities and economies. We’ve reached an important tipping point in this journey with many industries – and our clients, making bold decisions to enable swift changes. With a strong team, globally connected network of talent and a growing reputation for delivering value, we’re ready to assist our clients with that challenge.”

During his career Malcolm has led a significant number and variety of projects which have reduced greenhouse gas emissions and the carbon footprint of many companies’ operations. He has more than 30 years of experience in the hazardous chemicals and oil and gas industries in Australia and the United Kingdom as well as design, project management, construction, commissioning and operations experience. He is currently directing two major decarbonisation blue hydrogen related studies which have the potential to pave the way towards large scale export of hydrogen with a very low carbon footprint.

“We’re thrilled to have someone of Malcolm’s standing and experience in this important new role for GHD; he joins a globally connected network of Future Energy leaders and technical expertise united in a common purpose,” added Tej Gidda, GHD’s Global Future Energy Leader. “I know our people and clients will benefit from his sound judgement and broad expertise as we work together to hasten our progression to future energy systems.”
