GHD is providing environmental science and related consulting services to the Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority to support their mission of implementing the state’s Comprehensive Master Plan for a Sustainable Coast.

The challenge

By conducting thorough environmental assessments and developing effective restoration plans, the project aims to strengthen the resilience of Louisiana's coastal ecosystems against natural and human-induced threats. With a focus on protecting biodiversity, the project will develop plans to preserve and restore critical habitats for various species, ensuring the protection of biodiversity in the region. The project will involve local communities in the restoration efforts, providing education and raising awareness about the importance of coastal protection.

Our response

GHD will provide comprehensive environmental science and consulting services to support the CPRA's mission of protecting and restoring Louisiana's coastal regions. Work will be ongoing 2025 through 2028 and the scope of work includes:

  • Conducting environmental impact assessments
  • Performing ecological and biological studies
  • Using hydraulic modeling to inform decisions
  • Developing and implementing restoration plans
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of restoration efforts
  • Providing technical support and consultation on environmental regulations and compliance

The impact

Through careful planning and implementation, the project will promote sustainable development practices that balance environmental protection with economic growth. Enhanced coastal defenses will reduce the risk of flooding and erosion, protecting communities and infrastructure. By restoring natural habitats and ecosystems, the project will contribute to the long-term sustainability of Louisiana's coastal regions.
