With commercial freight flights set to take off today from Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSI), GHD is celebrating its contribution to this major milestone for Australia's supply chains, domestic producers and manufacturers, and Western Sydney's rapidly growing economy.

Qantas Freight, Menzies Aviation, dnata Cargo, dnata Catering & Retail, and Texel Air have signed on to the state-of-the-art, 24-hour Cargo Precinct, which will eventually grow to become the major centre of air freight for the region.

Since 2012, GHD has contributed to the delivery of WSI providing multidisciplinary services across aviation, infrastructure, environmental management, design and construction, helping to deliver Australia's first major greenfield international airport in more than 50 years.

For the Cargo Precinct, GHD provided multidisciplinary concept design, technical advisory, contractor design review and site attendance services. The company also acted as a “concept guardian” during construction, confirming contractor designs were aligned to the airport’s current and future requirements.

“Western Sydney International Airport is a unique and career-defining project for many of our people,” said Sonia Adams, GHD’s Chief Client Officer.

“Our work has been defined by trust, collaboration and a clear understanding of Western Sydney International Airport long-term objectives. That foundation has allowed both our organisations to work together to bring this aviation and economic hub to life.”
