Department of State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning (DSDMIP) is responsible for improving the productivity and quality of life in Queensland by leading economic strategy, industry development, infrastructure and planning for the benefit of all.

The challenge

ECRi Hub was created through the will of prominent Australian industry leaders and Government to bridge the collaboration and innovation shortfall in the engineering, construction and resources industries. ECRi Hub will work alongside other government programs such as Advance Queensland, METS Ignited and regional innovation hubs to grow a vibrant innovation community. These activities aim to maintain and grow global market share for our local industries and attract international attention.

The objectives of the department are to:

  • Lead the economic agenda
  • Attract investment
  • Diversify the economy
  • Enable projects
  • Create thriving communities

DSDMIP established the ECRi Hub to provide market-driven linkages between innovative technology, end users, investors and international partners to activate commercialisation opportunities in Queensland.

The program gave us a clear path, we knew what our industry needed, how to do it, but had no experience manufacturing or commercialising the product."
Liz Stringer, Owner, StringAir Vision

Our response

Through the support provided by GHD, the ECRi Hub was able to coordinate the innovative progression of Queensland. The hub was able to establish open lines of communication between relevant stakeholders by facilitating business to business linkages. This was crucial to the development of the state as it allowed various entities to be involved and interact. Additionally, the Hub would act as a facilitator or mentor to late stage technology developers as well as foster and encourage further innovation.

The impact

GHD has provided value to the ECRi Hub and the mentoring program participants in the following ways:

  • Sharing deep technical and market knowledge specific to their venture or innovation
  • Mapping out pathways to improve the likelihood of achieving successful commercialisation.
"By participating in the ECRi Hub Mentoring program, we were challenged to think about the future of our business and not just our product."
Sam Bevis, General Manager, Architectural Metalworks Australia.
