Rod Naylor from GHD has been appointed as a Director of the Australian Water Association, emphasizing the importance of sustainable water management amidst challenges like climate change and population growth.

Water management is the critical frontline in addressing climate, housing, energy and other challenges facing Australia and the world, according to GHD’s Rod Naylor, who has been appointed as a Director of the Australian Water Association at the OzWater conference in Adelaide.

Joining the Board of the Australian Water Association, Rod will draw on his 40 years’ experience in the water and environmental industries in Australia, New Zealand, the UK and the USA. As GHD’s Global Future of Water Leader, he leads the company’s efforts to develop new, holistic ways to help clients manage their water challenges.

“I am honoured to help advance Australian Water Association’s mission at such a pivotal time for the water industry. Water is inextricably linked to many of our current challenges,” Rod says. “New water and wastewater infrastructure is needed to cater for a growing population and address housing affordability. At the same time, our water systems need to become more sustainable and resilient in the face of climate change. Water is also critical for the renewable energy transition. Even new technologies – like AI – depend on large volumes of water being used to cool data centres. So, while there has been a lot of innovation in the water sector, we need to get even better at sustainably managing these precious resources.”

With more than 5,000 individual and organisational members, the Australian Water Association brings together people, businesses and governments to create a sustainable water future.
