GHD and Metcor Environmental (a 100% NSMA-owned company) are pleased to announce a collaboration to pursue professional services in the Northwest Territories (NWT) by leveraging the parties’ facilities, complementary skills, experience, and relationships.

Metcor Environmental is a company dedicated to providing environmental and engineering consulting services that support sustainable development on the traditional territory of the NSMA.

Including Indigenous involvement and perspectives is crucial in delivering professional services related to development projects in the Northwest Territories. That’s precisely the spirit behind the partnership agreement entered by Metcor Environmental and GHD. Metcor Environmental offers general environmental and engineering consulting services dedicated to serving the local community, government, and mining projects. Through the new collaboration with GHD, Metcor has expanded its capabilities to provide GHD’s full suite of service offerings to the local marketplace. The relationship effectively integrates global expertise with a local presence and understanding.

Metcor and GHD have identified several project types to pursue as collaborators. For example, mining projects are a staple for the Northwest Territories’ communities and economies which GHD and Metcor can support. In particular, the team is well positioned to help remediate the tailings from mine sites and provide operational and closure support for mines coming to the end of their lifecycle.  In addition, critical infrastructure such as energy grids and access roads are other areas that are in high demand and that this team can support. Through environmental studies and infrastructure design, resiliency can be integrated into the engineering of the infrastructure so it can better withstand climate change.

With the regional on-the-ground local staff, facilities, and understanding that Metcor Environmental provides to the collaboration, the value proportion for services presented to clients in the region is heightened. GHD's global expertise and capacity maximize the opportunity to serve local clients. The relationship is meant to promote mutual benefits for both parties. GHD aims to support local capacity building by assisting Metcor in its endeavors and sharing knowledge and expertise. Both parties will look to involve the other in project work completed in the region.

We thank the NMSA team for coming to an agreement on how to deliver strategic services together; we are indeed excited to embark on this journey, and I’m optimistic about where it will take us all."
Peter Tkalec, GHD Western Canada Operations Manager
The NSMA Environment Department has been providing services to 3rd party clients for several years and now with Metcor Environmental we're excited to expand our participation into the private sector. This is a big moment for NSMA and Metcor that we've been working towards for several years. We're working together proactively to diversify the community's participation in the environmental and natural resource sectors and enhance the benefits these projects bring to the North. We are enthusiastic about beginning this new chapter together.”

Canada Reconciliation Action Plan

Local project involvement with Indigenous peoples is a key consideration in GHD's Reconciliation Action Plan for Canada. This partnership aligns with those intentions and will provide mutual benefit to both parties.
