GHD has opened a new office in Peterborough, Ontario, strengthening its presence in a region where it already supports infrastructure, environmental, property development and energy projects.

The new space is located in the restored boiler house of the former St. Joseph’s Hospital on Armour Road. Built in the late 1940s, the building has been adapted for modern use while retaining its industrial character. The new office brings in natural light and supports the way GHD’s teams work. Open, comfortable workspaces encourage collaboration, while dedicated breakout areas create quieter settings for focused tasks and group discussions.

Inside, adjustable LED lighting complements the industrial setting, with natural wood features adding warmth and texture. The building operates on high-efficiency heat pump systems for heating and cooling, supporting energy-conscious performance.

The office is located in a redeveloped area of the city with walking distance to shops, restaurants, greenspace, the Trans-Canada Trail, bicycle paths, Peterborough Liftlocks and the Trent-Severn Waterway with easy access for visitors from main roads.

GHD has offices across Ontario and globally, and marks 50 years of operating in the province this year. The firm employs more than 1,100 people across Ontario, including 60 people in Peterborough today, with plans to grow in the coming years. The Peterborough office builds on that history while creating space for teams to work together in new ways.

This expansion reflects ongoing work in the region with local projects such as the new Miskin Law Community Complex, Peterborough Canoe Museum, Peterborough Regional Health Centre, private long-term care facilities, Library Main Branch redevelopment, Peterborough police expansion and modernization projects and Trent Severn Waterway dam replacements. It also demonstrates GHD’s continued commitment to supporting future land development, municipal projects and transportation infrastructure projects.

Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Ashburnham Ward Gary Baldwin presented a certificate during a recent ribbon-cutting ceremony on behalf of the Mayor and City Council to mark the opening, with additional congratulations from MPP Dave Smith (Peterborough–Kawartha) and MP Emma Harrison (Peterborough).

“Opening this office strengthens how we support our clients and communities in Peterborough and across the region,” said Ryan Shepherd, GHD’s General Manager for Canada Central. “This space reflects our commitment to the area and creates room for our people to grow alongside the work ahead.”

In addition to the new office, GHD continues to operate a materials testing laboratory on Pido Road, supporting project delivery across the region.
