Peter Lusardi recognized with two national awards from American Water Works Association
Peter Lusardi, a lead engineer with GHD, received both the 2026 Publications Award and the 2026 Best Article Award from the American Water Works Association (AWWA) at its Annual Conference and Exposition (ACE26) in June.
The honors recognize Lusardi’s article, “The $50 Billion Question: Examining EPA’s PFAS Drinking Water Limits,” published in the October 2025 issue of Journal AWWA. The article also received the Best Article Award in the Water Quality and Technology Division.
The Publications Award recognizes the most notable contribution to Journal AWWA across the public water supply profession. The Best Article Award, given in seven divisions, is granted to the highest-rated paper in each, based on its significance of contribution to the sector.
In the article, Lusardi examines the development, soundness and implications of the US Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed PFAS drinking water limits, including the potential cost, regulatory complexity and operational challenges facing utilities. The work brings clarity to a rapidly evolving area of water policy and supports informed decision-making across the industry.
I’m honored to be recognized alongside so many strong contributions in our field. This article reflects a shared effort across the industry to better understand PFAS impacts and what they mean for utilities and communities. Many of the facts in this case are so striking that they lend themselves to a particularly compelling analysis.”
AWWA presents the Publication Award annually to a peer-reviewed article with at least one member as an author. Submissions are evaluated on their contribution to public health and the water profession, with consideration given to both research insight and real-world application.
AWWA comprises 50,000 water professionals worldwide and is the largest nonprofit, scientific and educational association dedicated to managing and treating water.
