GHD, in a joint venture with Jacobs, provided the detailed engineering design for the civil, structural and selected systems for the light rail. The joint venture provided the lighting, structures and pedestrian modelling for the new light rail stops. GHD and Jacobs also designed the street lighting, pavements, footpaths and cycle ways which are improving safety for passengers and cyclists around the light rail’s route.
To successfully deliver the infrastructure, the joint venture designed the horizontal and vertical alignment for the light rail track as well as the crossings. Throughout the route, there are retaining walls, foundations, drainage, tunnels and bridges, as well as maintenance and stabling facilities.
The project brought about changes to the traditional workflows used by consultants. Digital engineering and innovations were used throughout the project including a Common Data Environment across many site offices, bridge and perway model innovations in the model data exchange and inground services clash coordination.
The use of Navisworks enabled the team to provide a better coordinated model, and helped our client avoid time construction issues, based around constructability.
The CBD and South East Light Rail project is a key part of Sydney’s transport future.
