GHD and Costain, have been awarded four contracts under the Department for Transport’s (DfT) Specialist Technical and Commercial Advice for Rail and Other Transport Modes (STARThree) Framework.

Leading professional services organization GHD, in partnership with Costain, has been awarded four contracts under the Department for Transport’s (DfT) Specialist Technical and Commercial Advice for Rail and Other Transport Modes (STARThree) Framework. The framework, which commenced earlier this year, will see the partnership provide specialist consultancy advice to the UK government as it delivers critical infrastructure across road, rail and aviation.

The initial four contracts awarded, worth £1.4m, are across the UK’s transport infrastructure. Work will include providing bespoke engineering and decarbonization advice across DfT's portfolio, a review of stations and asset management in the southeast and helping the Government understand the funding position for major investment by supplying technical expertise.

GHD and Costain are working to solve some of the UK’s most pressing transportation and mobility challenges, including decarbonization, improving reliability and levelling-up. The work builds upon the success of DfT’s previous STARTwo Framework and continues a longstanding and collaborative relationship between the DfT, Costain and GHD.

Delivery will be supported by a highly specialist and experienced supply chain drawn from across the transport industry, with DfT targeting 40% of total expenditure to be spent with small and medium sized businesses (SMEs) to support local growth.

GHD is committed to addressing the world’s biggest challenges. Within transport, we are the leading advisors with extensive technical authority in the movement of people and goods and we’re pleased to be working with the DfT on these critical projects.  The four contracts awarded are reflective of the strong partnership with Costain and our SME supply chain and provide opportunity to bring best in class solutions and help solve some of the most complex problems facing U.K. transport.

Jonathan Edwards, GHD’s Market Development Leader EMEA

David Taylor, interim managing director for transportation at Costain, said: “We have extensive expertise in delivering major projects and are perfectly placed to advise the Government on critical infrastructure solutions. These awards are testimony to Costain’s high quality, technical expertise in areas such as decarbonisation, and will facilitate important collaboration with SME partners. Together we will help solve the UK’s most-urgent strategic infrastructure challenges.”
