2019 Resene Total Colour Awards
Colour Maestro Award winner under the Commercial Interior Shared Space category
The New Zealand Police aimed to create an inclusive and collaborative environment that fosters partnerships with local iwi and community organisations. Their mission was to incorporate flexible working styles and technology to enable a shared space that prioritises the protection and service of the local community.
The existing space was dull, with inadequate collaborative spaces and minimal natural light. Anticipating future growth, the New Zealand Police envisioned a transformation of two workspaces and the staff café, to create a vibrant and welcoming hub that inspires creativity, socialisation and promotes a sense of community among staff and visitors.
Inclusive and collaborative, this space reflects the partnerships fostered within, that will protect and serve the local community. Timber screens, acoustic features, feature lighting and a variety of furniture creates an agile, open-plan space, where staff have the freedom to choose a workstation that suits their needs.
The Resene Colour Awards judges praised this project, describing it as a space that “cleverly breaks down barriers with colour, bringing the police and community together in a positive environment where all are welcome.”
Allowing for future growth, the staff café has been transformed. Natural light streams in, and a refreshed outdoor terrace creates an informal space to celebrate and relax. This space has become the ‘heart’ of the Henderson Police Station, where staff can meet and connect.
The outcome of this project is an inclusive and collaborative workspace that fosters partnerships with the community to protect and serve the local area.
