Leading professional services company GHD is working with TAFE NSW to deliver four new Connected Learning Centres (CLCs) across Northern NSW, providing regional communities with modern-day digital learning facilities.
GHD is providing end-to-end project and program management on the program of works for the CLCs in Nambucca Heads, Cobar, Tomaree and Byron Bay, which have a combined value of AUD36 million. This includes all phases from planning, design, procurement, construction and commissioning.
The CLC program is all about delivering multi-purpose digital learning assets that support students, employers and industry partners to obtain the skills needed for the jobs of the future that are vital for regional economic growth.
The digital learning tools mean that course availability is no longer reliant on local enrolment levels, providing crucial learning opportunities in regional areas.
CLCs are flexible facilities equipped with up-to-date technology such as LCD touch screen televisions to remotely connect students, group learning areas, technology bars, maker space, computer hubs, print shop, kitchen amenities, outdoor learning spaces, social lounges, mobile training unit and a grade level car park.
“Successful completion of these CLCs is very important for TAFE NSW and surrounding communities because they are an essential part of improving employment opportunities for local residents in a post-COVID-19 economy,” says Dean Adams, GHD’s Project Manager.
“The learning style that goes hand in hand with the CLCs means that they are equipped for any subsequent COVID-19 social distancing requirements and similar challenges into the future," says Dean.
“We are pleased to be able to play a critical role in overseeing the projects from start to finish. The long-term benefits they will provide for the communities, at a time needed most makes it a special program to be part of.”
Construction is now underway for the Nambucca Heads CLC, which is scheduled to open in August 2021. Driven by the same purpose and educational model as Nambucca Heads, the other three CLCs are at different stages of their completion.
“We are looking forward to applying the approach, challenges and lessons learned from the Nambucca Heads CLC to achieve success across all four locations,” adds Dean.
