One of the world’s leading engineering, architecture, environmental and construction services companies, GHD, has been recognised for its commitment to local government clients.
GHD’s Angela Fry received the 2016 Woman in Engineering award at this year’s Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia, Queensland (IPWEAQ) Excellence Awards.
Leading the company’s team of more than 20 consultants in Toowoomba and south-west Queensland, Angela has more than 18 years’ experience as a civil engineer and project manager, working in both the public and private sectors.
The award acknowledged Angela’s outstanding project management and leadership skills in delivering major projects, such as the $50M Outer Circulating Road, as well as her focus on mentoring and inspiring junior engineers and students.
Angela says, “It is very humbling to have won this award after being nominated by Toowoomba Regional Council. I am inspired by the power of well-designed infrastructure to create better communities for everyone.”
South Burnett Regional Council collected awards for the Gordonbrook Water Treatment Plant Upgrade and the Kingaroy Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade. GHD provided construction superintendent services for these projects.
In response to long-held community concerns regarding water quality, the upgraded Gordonbrook Water Treatment allows for a more cost effective raw water source for council and provides a secure water supply to customers.
The Kingaroy Wastewater Treatment Plant introduced Australian-first technology to save capital, operations and maintenance costs while reducing energy consumption and improving water quality.
Leigh Cunningham, IPWEAQ Chief Executive Officer, says the awards “recognise excellence, innovation, forward thinking and sustainability in the delivery of projects that benefit Queensland communities.
“The criteria addresses innovation, but also stakeholder engagement and the contribution to the community and local economy.”
Jim Giannopoulos, GHD’s Manager – South Queensland, congratulated Angela on her achievement and said the award was a fantastic reflection of Angela and her team’s strong relationships with local government clients.
“Every day our people bring their local knowledge and experience, as well as the capabilities of our global network, to help our clients address the challenges facing our growing regions, to build lasting community benefit.”
