GHD people recently loaded two trucks of hay donated by Sydney Water for the Burrumbuttock Hay Run.
The hay came from the 175 ha Picton Farm, which GHD manages on behalf of Sydney Water. The farm uses recycled water to irrigate crops that are then sold to local dairy and beef farmers as stock fodder.
Departing on Australia Day, 26 January, the hay run was made up of 150 trucks that travelled more than 800 km to distribute hay and essential supplies to drought-stricken farmers in the area around Cunnamulla, Queensland. It was the 13th convoy in four years.
The 44 bales of hay from Picton Farm were delivered to "Clover Downs”, a 300,000 acre sheep grazing property just south of Cunnamulla, helping feed the stock during the extremely dry conditions they are experiencing.
Together with Sydney Water, GHD has been supporting the Burrumbuttock Hay Run since 2016.
Will Davies, GHD’s Picton Farm Manager, said, “It’s inspirational to see people from across the agriculture and transport industries come together and donate their time and resources to help farmers facing tremendous hardship. We are proud to be part of this great cause.”
Gavin Landers, Contract Plants Manager at Sydney Water, said, “Sydney Water is delighted to have been able to help the farmers of Queensland again this year by donating hay to the Burrumbuttock Hay Run.
“Our farm at Picton is in the enviable position of receiving water from our wastewater treatment plant nearby, so as an organisation we believe it is important for us to support farmers who are doing it tough in drought conditions.”
