GHD has been awarded the role of Technical Advisor for implementation of the European Train Control Systems (ETCS) for the Cross River Rail project and the inner-city rail network.
ETCS provides the critical core for safe signalling and train control to achieve the vision for a turn-up-and-go transport system for South East Queensland.
Simon Cook, ETCS Project Director, Cross River Rail Delivery Authority said: “Cross River Rail is being delivered in partnership with the private sector and we are pleased to welcome GHD to partner with us on this transformational project.”
GHD brings proven, complex inter-disciplinary project delivery to this exciting project which will transform Brisbane and connect South East Queensland in a way never seen before. The Cross River Rail project will generate thousands of jobs during construction, stimulating much needed economic recovery post COVID-19.
John Cranley, GHD National Rail Leader said, “We’re proud to be providing world class Digital Train Control capabilities to this iconic Queensland rail infrastructure project.”
“GHD’s business continuity plans mean that we are able to provide all of the required services reliably during the COVID-19 pandemic to support our client in the delivery of this crucial project for the state.”
Drawing upon our network, GHD brings a track record of accomplishments in successful integration and interoperability of railways in a safety critical environment.
GHD’s understanding of the importance of technology integration on complex high performance train control systems is exemplified by our recent role as Independent Certifier for Australia’s first Digital Train Control system – Sydney Metro Northwest.
Digital Train Control is fundamental to enabling high levels of safety, capacity and on time running of rail networks. By drawing on international experience in collaboration with partners we identify and address issues that impact successful automation.
The ETCS project has already commenced and due to be completed in 2024. The investment in ETCS is expected to be over AU$650m.
