Leading professional services company, GHD, has won Bronze in the Exceptional Project Execution and Delivery Category at the Project Innovation Awards, part of the IWA World Water Congress.
The award celebrates GHD’s role in expanding the boundaries of excellence across the water sector, strengthening the company’s position as pioneers in its field. This recognition follows on from The Excellence in Water accolade, part of the NCE100 awards ‘Shaping the World’ theme, which GHD claimed in May of this year.
The award recognises GHD’s groundbreaking approach to project delivery on the Birmingham Resilience Project (BRP), one of the UK’s major water schemes. The project sits at the forefront of water sector engineering in terms of its scale, complexity and drive for innovation. It is allowing GHD to trial a number of large-scale innovations, which it is anticipated will be applied as best practice across the industry.
Due for completion in 2020, the BRP comprises three major schemes; rehabilitation of the 118 km Elan Valley Aqueduct, a new 25 km cross country pipeline and pumping station on the river Severn, and the upgrade of Frankley Water Treatment Works.
GHD is leading the civil, structural and geotechnical design on all three projects, working closely with Severn Trent and design partners, the Barhale and North Midland Alliance to maximise benefits across the scheme. The company’s collaborative approach and commitment to pioneering techniques has helped to protect supply reliability for Severn Trent’s customers, and enhance efficiency and value for all stakeholders.
Stewart Tennant, GHD Market Leader – Water, UK says, ‘Winning this award is recognition of our hard work in pushing the boundaries of technical excellence to deliver more for less across the water industry. Working closely with multiple stakeholders, we’ve shared best practice and introduced pioneering techniques to reduce costs, shorten program timelines, and mitigate the impacts on the local environment, which has built trust and confidence in water services.”
