Our response

GHD was retained by the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) to construct an automated MPMG Range on the live-fire Training Range Complex. The project consists of a multi-lane machine gun range with multiple target emplacements in each lane. The design approach focuses on the US Marine Corps training outcome and user requirements for both current and future training scenarios for the automated MPMG.

GHD provided an experienced team with extensive knowledge of the live-fire training requirements and the facilities to complete this mission. They worked tirelessly with the client to understand the training requirements and design a sustainable training facility capable of supporting current and foreseeable future training requirements. They also performed minor alterations to the range location so that the range’s Surface Danger Zone could not encumber any of the other ranges or inhabited facilities located in proximity.

GHD designed the range to accommodate the line of sight (LOS) and grade required which minimized the bulk earthworks and environmental encroachment on sensitive areas. LoS analysis, ballistics calculations, and other key safety parameters were also incorporated in the final design to ensure mission-essential tasks could be accomplished.
