One of the world’s leading engineering, architecture, environmental and construction services companies, GHD, has helped deliver the largest road project to date in Western Australia, Gateway WA.
The project is now complete and provides a safer and more efficient road network around Perth Airport and nearby industrial estates.
Gateway WA caters for an expected increase in passenger air traffic as well as increased freight and container transport.
GHD worked in an alliance with CPB Contractors, Georgiou, AECOM and BG&E for Main Roads WA.
Since construction began in 2013, the project built four new grade separated interchanges, upgraded a fifth interchange, widened a section of Tonkin Highway to six lanes and upgraded a section of Leach Highway to expressway standard.
A sixth interchange at the Roe Highway/Berkshire Road intersection was added to the project after significant cost savings were made.
A large portion of the project was completed in September 2015, with the remaining work recently delivered to complete the project ahead of schedule.
Public art features and more than one million plants throughout the project area have created a pleasant and iconic entrance to Western Australia. More than 21 kilometres of shared path and local connections provide a safe route for cyclists and pedestrians.
