Global professional services firm GHD has been appointed Owner’s Engineer for the Clean Energy Innovation Park (CEIP) project in Western Australia, expected to be Australia’s first, and possibly largest, commercial scale green hydrogen supply chain project.
CEIP is being constructed by integrated energy, housing, transportation and infrastructure solutions provider ATCO in a joint venture with Australian Gas Infrastructure Group (AGIG). The project includes a 10MW hydrogen electrolyzer unit that will be embedded within the 184MW Warradarge Wind Farm, just under 250 kilometres north of Perth.
The project is progressing through the final stages towards financial close before construction, planned to commence in 2022.
ATCO has engaged global professional service firm, GHD to assist with FEED engineering in the lead up to achieving financial close with their financiers and the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), who provided a substantial grant to their CEIP project.
Prior to this appointment, GHD worked with ATCO for two years on the feasibility study of a green hydrogen 10MW electrolyzer installation at the Warradarge Wind Farm. GHD also brings experience as the Owner’s Engineer on the design and construction of the Warradarge Wind Farm.
GHD’s Western Australian Market Leader - Energy, Joep Vaessen commented, “The combination of the connection to the wind farm makes it an exciting future energy project delivering green hydrogen, which is highly sought after in international markets. Having a project of this technology within driving distance of our Perth CBD would be a magnificent landmark for national and international companies interested in the production of green hydrogen.
“This project is an excellent example of how GHD works with its clients to lead the transition towards a future of affordable, reliable, secure and low-carbon energy. Our Future Energy growth initiative aims to propel GHD’s position in the decarbonisation space, with existing and new clients all over the world.”
