Leading employee-owned professional services company, GHD, has welcomed Paul Yates as Technical Director – Geotechnics and Engineering Geology, to expand its geotechnical service offering in the UK.
Paul brings more than 30 years’ experience in specialist geotechnical advice, design studies and construction supervision services across Europe and Asia. In Hong Kong, Paul designed geotechnical works for the 1377 metre Tsing Ma Suspension Bridge and the 1100 metre Ting Kau Cable-Stayed Bridge. He was also responsible for major mass transit rail and water supply tunnels in the territory.
In the UK, Paul’s experience spans railway earthworks renewals for both West Coast and East Coast Mainline programmes, and underground excavations in soft ground for United Utilities.
An active member of the geotechnical and geological community, Paul is author of numerous technical publications and is both a Chartered Engineer and Chartered Geologist.
Paul says, “I’m very excited to be joining GHD, a progressive company I know very well and have a long association with. I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead and working with the Geotechnical team here to provide our clients with practical and innovative solutions to ground-based problems.”
