Technology is evolving faster than ever before, especially in the transportation sector, with fully automated cars and trains gradually being introduced around the world.
Leading employee-owned professional services company, GHD, is expanding its services to help clients prepare for changes in how people and goods will move.
Neil Lane recently joined GHD in Brisbane as Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Leader. Moving from the UK, Neil will lead the development of the company’s capability and capacity for ITS systems across Australia.
Neil brings extensive experience in many ITS, tunnel design and control motorways schemes. He is also looking forward to exploring the latest technologies, having worked on connected and autonomous vehicle projects in the UK and in Nevada, USA.
David Parminter, GHD’s Manager for Transportation in South Queensland, says, “Neil specialises in managing complex ITS projects, specifically within highway schemes. His arrival will mean we are in an even stronger position to help clients create the transport system of tomorrow.”
Neil says, “I want to look at the new technologies and innovations to further enhance the operations and maintenance of ITS on highways. Road authorities across Australia are also actively exploring what's known as Cooperative ITS (C-ITS), where vehicles can communicate with other vehicles and infrastructure such as traffic signals. This will be an important precursor to fully autonomous vehicles and GHD is well positioned to assist clients in this transition.”
