GHD has extended its commitment to Australia’s emerging Hydrogen industry with its appointment as a Corporate Member on the Australian Hydrogen Council (AHC).
In joining the council, GHD will have the opportunity to share its extensive global industry knowledge and experience in supporting the council build a secure, clean and resilient energy future for Australia based on hydrogen.
GHD’s primary representative on the council is Rory Quinn, Technical Director Plant & Process. Rory brings to this role more than 20 years industry experience, and with a strong focus on future energy options. One of his first tasks for AHC will be to coordinate GHD’s participation and contribution to the council’s Policy Advisory, Infrastructure and Technical committees.
GHD’s AHC membership follows its detailed response to Australia’s National Hydrogen Strategy, which included international perspectives from its teams in Australia, USA, Canada and the UK. The company also participated in a related Hydrogen Taskforce-hosted Industry Workshop in September 2019 which helped shape the framework for the final strategy.
“Our AHC membership reflects our commitment and passion for enabling a robust, sustainable hydrogen industry in Australia,” said Phil Duthie, Executive General Manager – Australia. “We’re excited about the opportunity to work with other members and the broader industry to help lay the groundwork and ensure Australia realises the enormous potential of hydrogen.
“Like GHD, the AHC recognises the narrow window of opportunity here. It’s time to move from debate to action. A collaborative, innovative and transparent alliance must now take place between industry, government and community to enable the necessary investment and ensure that the benefits are realised as soon as possible.”
Dr Fiona Simon, CEO of the Australian Hydrogen Council, added, “The Australian hydrogen industry is growing and our members are at the forefront, leading the way in hydrogen technology and innovation to build a clean and resilient energy future. I am delighted to welcome GHD to our membership and look forward to working with them to ensure that Australia becomes a global leader in supplying hydrogen around the world.”
In Australia, GHD is working with clients on a vast range of hydrogen-related projects across Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, Victoria and New South Wales.
“In responding to our client needs, we can draw from the in-depth knowledge of our global technical teams as well as leverage our first-hand experience in the development of similar emerging industries,” said Phil. “We look forward to sharing our insights and expertise with AHC.”
“We believe the continued close collaboration between governments, industry, researchers and communities in the coming year will be vital to Australia realising the potential of hydrogen. We’re very excited to be working with our clients, their communities and the broader industry to help foster this potential.”
