As part of our commitment to improve life in Britain’s communities, our Contamination Assessment and Remediation Team recently provided pro bono support and expertise to CRASH Charity for the proposed development of a coffee shop in the gardens of a property that houses homeless people.
CRASH is a UK-wide organisation that assists homelessness charities and hospices with vital construction projects. Our work with them helped to identify development constraints for a potential new coffee shop that would aim to attract homeless people that need support, as well as offer employment experience to those in need.
The site in Bootle, Merseyside, will act as an outreach centre to support the wider homeless communities in the evenings and during the day. Together with offering food and drink to those in need, it will also allow members of the local community to get together and try their hand at gardening.
Our team conducted a comprehensive review to identify any constraints to the proposed development with respect to contaminants present in the ground at the property.
Jo Steele, GHD Service Group Manager of Contamination Assessment and Remediation, commented: “Projects like these are so important to the fabric of our communities and really help us support those in the greatest need. Charities such as CRASH do such incredible work and we’re very proud to have played a part in the development of such an important facility.” Anybody wishing to support CRASH in their vital mission donate here.
