GHD’s James Elliott has been named as the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) North West - Young Mechanical Engineer of the Year.
The award was presented at this year’s North West Engineering Excellence Awards, a celebration of engineering excellence in the North West region of the UK, hosted jointly by the Institute of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) and the IMechE.
A Senior Mechanical Engineer in GHD’s Manchester office, James was recognised for his commitment to improving the world through the use of intelligent engineering. James worked with an industrial chemicals client to improve the sustainability of their manufacturing processes through waste reduction, subsequently increasing plant output and profitability.
James was also praised for his role in developing professional engineers and inspiring the next generation. In addition to his engineering role, James organises learning and development sessions to continually improve knowledge within his team. He also acts as a mentor for GHD graduates, as well as taking an active role in the IMechE community.
“I’m thrilled to have been named as the IMechE North West – Young Mechanical Engineer of the Year,” James says.
“My success is testament to GHD’s investment in my development and also the opportunities afforded to me. Thank you to my colleagues, my partner and my family for their encouragement and support.”
James was nominated for the award by Joe Charles, GHD’s Engineering Manager who comments, “James is an asset to GHD and an excellent role model to other young engineers both in the organisation and the wider industry. This award provides James with the recognition he deserves for his hard work and commitment to both GHD and the engineering profession.”
The company received further recognition at the awards with GHD’s Maria Audi Plaza named as finalist in the IChemE Young Chemical Engineer of the Year Award.
