One of the world’s leading engineering, architecture, environmental and construction services companies, GHD, is proud to make a difference to the Riverina community with a donation of 12 laptops to the Wagga Women’s Health Centre.
The Centre is a community based non-government organisation run by women for women. It offers a range of wellness services, including emotional, psychological, social and physical, to the women of Wagga Wagga and surrounding districts. It also includes trauma and support services for women who have experienced domestic violence or sexual assault.
According to the Centre’s Manager, Gail Meyer, the organisation previously only had one laptop for clients. Thanks to the donation, the Centre will now be able to add training classes to their list of services, as well as giving women access to private computer use and internet access.
The computers were officially presented by Ken Snell, GHD’s Market Leader for ACT and Southern NSW, who travelled from the company’s Canberra office.
“GHD people have been working and living in Wagga for more than a decade. We maintain a strong commitment to community organisations such as the Wagga Women’s Health Centre. With the donation of laptops, many women will access new opportunities and lasting benefit in a stable environment free of external pressures. This is particularly important for those who do not feel safe using public computers in libraries,” Ken says.
“We look forward to working with the Centre in the future and remaining engaged with their important work.”
Justeen Kirk, Manager of GHD’s Riverina office, says, “As a woman, it is nice to know that there are services available to me should I ever need them. It is really important to feel that you have someone you can turn to. Both Julie and Gail are both very dedicated to the services they provide to the Wagga residents and it is a real pleasure to be able to help them to support our community in this positive way.”
GHD employs 12 people in the Riverina with skills in engineering, project management and environmental science.
