Duncan Findlay, GHD’s Chief Counsel – Americas, was recently admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS).
Duncan was sworn in at SCOTUS in Washington, DC, on March 21, 2018. After taking an oath before SCOTUS’s full bench of nine judges, Duncan now has the prestigious designation as being duly admitted and qualified as an Attorney and Counselor of the Supreme Court of the United States.
To obtain this rare appointment and recognition, an attorney must have attained standing to practice at the highest court in their home state for a significant duration; cultivated a long-standing reputation of high integrity, character, and professionalism; and been recommended for the appointment by numerous attorneys currently practicing before SCOTUS.
Duncan has been an important source of leadership since he joined in 2008 as GHD’s trusted advisor at the outset of GHD’s North American journey. He has acted as a key legal advisor with respect to all of GHD’s North American merger and acquisition activities, including Stearns & Wheler, LLC; Winzler & Kelly; Sernas Holdings Inc.; Conestoga-Rovers & Associates; and Omni-Means, Ltd.
He continues to support GHD’s North American operations in relation to corporate transactions, corporate secretarial matters, integrity management and compliance, federal contracting compliance, risk allocation for contract engagements, risk mitigation for claim management, and all matters of ad hoc legal inquiry. In addition, Duncan serves as an invaluable mentor to GHD’s North American Legal and Risk team.
Duncan was admitted to practice in 1973 in the state of Washington, and since then has notably served as Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel for PB Telecom, Inc., and as President and General Counsel for Shannon & Wilson, Inc. He is also a co-editor of a State-by-State Guide to Design and Construction Contracts and Claims.
He currently resides with his wife, Eileen, in Phoenix, which is in close proximity to his children and grandchildren. He is an avid and involved grandfather, skier, golfer, amateur photographer, blues guitarist, whisky aficionado, and raconteur.
GHD congratulates Duncan on this tremendous accomplishment and appreciates all of the knowledge and experience he provides to his GHD teammates!
