GHD’s ongoing growth and performance as a global leader in environmental consulting was recognized in the latest Top 200 Environmental Firms rankings from Engineering News-Record this month.
The prestigious industry ranking shows a substantial improvement in the company’s position from the 2018 ranking, demonstrating the impact of GHD’s focus on not only tackling the environmental legacies of the past, but also as a result of its relentless focus on anticipating and addressing emerging issues in a continuously evolving environmental market.
GHD has committed to new ways of working that integrate strategic business advisory, digital solutions, and market-driven innovation to maintain pace with the challenges faced by public and private sector clients alike.
At a glance, GHD’s ranking amongst a highly competitive environmental market is summarized as follows:
- #17 for environmental revenue. Up from #26 in 2018, GHD has focused on a market-facing approach to serving clients.
- #8 in environmental science. Ranking in the top 10 for the first time, GHD has diversified its environmental business with a heavy focus on environmental impact and assessment, coastal and marine sciences, and environmental sciences that enable projects across a wide range of markets, including water, property and buildings and transportation.
- #7 for Consulting/Studies. Moving into the top 10 for the first time, GHD’s focus on integrating strategic environmental consulting has been a catalyst for our continued growth and performance.
- #10 in serving private clients. With a first-time ranking in the top 10, GHD’s commitment to providing industry-leading environmental consulting solutions to long-standing clients and the company’s focus on further growth and diversification of its client base has resulted in continued year-on-year performance improvements relative to its top competitors in the private market space.
- #10 in Hazardous Waste. Retaining a #10 position, GHD’s environmental restoration practice continues to be one of the top performing service lines in its business and across the environmental industry.
- #8 in firms working in non-US locations. Up from #20 in 2018, this significant shift reflects the strength of GHD’s business in Canada, Australia, Asia Pacific, Europe and Middle East.
“GHD’s environmental business has proven to be an engine for sustainable growth over the history of our company. Our ambition is not to be the biggest player in the environmental market, but to be the top performing privately-held company of our size and scale, creating value for our clients, our employees, and the communities that benefit from our work,” says Kurt Beil, GHD’s Environment Market Leader for the Northern Hemisphere.
“Building on our strong foundation, one of our top priorities is to drive continued future growth by aligning our strategy with evolving global markets and emerging trends, including emerging environmental threats, climate change, aging assets and infrastructure, and digital disruption. To do this effectively we are continuing to improve knowledge sharing across our global business, so that we can leverage our global expertise and the results of ongoing innovation and research developments from our mature markets into emerging ones. For example, leveraging our history of addressing poly and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in Australia and Europe into the evolving US and Canadian markets.
“As an early leader in the digital space, our strategic focus is to build upon our current position of strength to bring an even more prominent ‘digital edge’ to our environmental solutions. We firmly believe that technology offers one of the greatest opportunities to support our clients in achieving their business goals, while creating opportunities for us to develop new high-value market solutions and revenue streams, such as providing critical training and virtual assessments of spill sites for first responders in emergency situations, using predictive modelling and analytics to identify and address vulnerabilities for our private and public sector clients, or analyzing decades of environmental data to make smarter business decisions related to environmental liability management.
“By using intelligent solutions, leveraging data and analytics, and advanced visualization and augmented reality, we are seeking to transform our business in the built, natural, and virtual environments in North America and across the globe.”
The Top 200 Environmental Firms rankings from ENR ranks contractors and consultants by global revenue from ‘environmental services’. The figures are for 2018 calendar year and in USD.
