We’re delighted to announce Shayne Te Aika has recently joined our New Zealand and Pacific team as a Business Relationship Leader based in our Ōtautahi Christchurch office. Shayne’s focus will be on building relationships with newly created water entities and councils; identifying ways to help them proactively respond to Three Waters Reform.
During this pivotal moment for Local Government, when councils are adapting to changing policy and responding to universal challenges such as climate change, whilst continuing to deliver business as usual, Shayne's approach emphasises the importance of trust, connectedness and community building. "Our clients are an integral part of our whānau. We experience the highs and lows together then we come out stronger on the other side. In the good times, we celebrate our success, and in the tough times we work together to build our capability to take on the challenges that lie ahead across a challenging and changing future."
Through his leadership roles in the defence, legal and public sectors, Shayne has developed a passion for building strong, meaningful relationships whilst working to enable, connect and grow emerging leaders. He is currently the Pro-Chancellor at the University of Canterbury where he plays a critical governance role on the board, assisting the Vice-Chancellor to drive the strategy for the University. A key focus of this role is to support a closer alignment of the university’s strategy with Māori aspirations to grow and develop tertiary education opportunities for Māori.
Prior to this role, Shayne worked with Christchurch City Council as a Principal Relationship Advisor where he supported Counsellors and the Chief Executive to develop the relationship with Iwi and Papatipu Rūnanga. Shayne will join GHD's Ōtautahi Christchurch office as part of a national team supporting our clients to shape a better future and deliver sound commercial solutions.
Maurice Hoban, Client Experience Leader, said "The landscape our clients are operating in is constantly changing. We need change leaders who can work closely with our clients to shape solutions, collaborate, and bring forward or global and local expertise in ways that will support clients to deliver lasting benefit to communities. But this requires strong relationship leaders, who have a mandate to act on behalf of our clients and take the necessary action to make it a reality. This is why I am excited to welcome a relationship leader like Shayne into GHD”.
