Leading employee owned professional services company, GHD, has been recognised for supporting Australian Defence Force (ADF) reservists.
The company recently received the Defence Employer Support Award for Queensland in the Large Business Category, from the Defence Reserves Support Council, an organisation that promotes the benefits of reserve service to employers and the community.
GHD was nominated by Brendan Cox, a civil engineer in the company’s Mackay office. Brendan has been a member of the Australian Army Reserve for more than 10 years, including serving overseas as part of the International Stabilisation Force in East Timor.
“Being a reservist is great for personal development, because it puts you into a variety of demanding situations where you have to use teamwork and communication skills,” Brendan says. “It helps me maintain a high level of fitness and self-discipline, and also provides opportunities and experiences well outside the normal day-to-day routine.”
Damian Drain, GHD’s Defence Sector Leader, says, “We are proud of our people who use their skills to improve national security and international stability as part of the Navy, Army and Air Force. Many of our people are current or former ADF personnel who have gained unique experience through their service and are now able to apply it to civilian projects. Our commitment to flexible working includes support for our people’s reserve service and training obligations.”
GHD is now in the running for the national Employer Support Award.
