World leading engineering, environmental and advisory services company, GHD, has won the prestigious NCE Excellence in Water Award.
The Excellence in Water accolade, part of the NCE100 awards ‘Shaping the World’ theme, recognises GHD’s exemplary contribution to the UK water industry over the last 20 years.
The NCE100, published by the UK’s New Civil Engineer (NCE) magazine, is an annual assessment of the most forward thinking, innovative firms operating in civil engineering today. Companies showcasing truly outstanding civil engineering practices were singled out as finalists for an NCE100 award across the core themes of Technical Excellence, Business Culture and Shaping the World.
GHD was commended for its role on the Birmingham Resilience Project (BRP), one of the UK’s highest profile water projects which will safeguard water supplies for UK’s second largest city. In 1995, GHD started its journey in the UK water sector with no track record and this latest achievement strengthens the organisation’s reputation as trusted partner to many UK water companies.
Due for completion in 2020, the BRP comprises three major schemes; rehabilitation of the 118 km Elan Valley Aqueduct, a new 25 km cross country pipeline and pumping station on the river Severn, and upgrade of Frankley Wastewater Treatment Works. GHD is playing a major role in the civil, structural and geotechnical design on all three projects.
Richard Malam, Engineering Manager, GHD says, “We’ve applied innovative techniques that have generated significant efficiencies for the Birmingham Resilience Project, and protected supply reliability for Severn Trent Water’s customers.”
Stewart Tennant, GHD Market Sector Leader – Water, UK says “This award is testament to the work of GHD’s engineers in constantly striving to deliver best practice through innovative approaches in design and construction. Civil engineering projects on the scale of the BRP blur the lines between permanent works and temporary works, geotechnical design and structural design. At GHD we look at our clients’ projects in a holistic way, with a joined up mentality, to come up with optimal solutions which are economically viable and safe to build, operate and maintain.”
GHD delivers innovative design, engineering and consultancy in the water, energy and resources, environment, property and buildings, and transport markets.
