GHD has played a key role in assisting Forward Mining in their development of an 1Mtpa greenfield iron ore (magnetite) mine, located 35 km south of Burnie in north-west Tasmania.
The Rogetta Iron Ore Project has recently received its mining licence, state and federal environmental approval, enabling the client to proceed with construction.
As lead consultant, GHD has provided all engineering, environmental and approvals services for the mine, which is estimated to create approximately 100 direct jobs for the state’s economy.
GHD has been working with the client since 2011, on all aspects of the project, from mine planning to port infrastructure. GHD’s Tasmanian team also provided state and federal environmental approvals, as well as government liaison services.
Rohan Koening, Project Manager, says, “We made the most of our local capabilities as well as our connected global network to build a trusted relationship with the client. Having the local ongoing contact enabled us to quickly identify issues and solutions both within the project and the client relationship to ensure our delivery was always on track. Our services have helped the client to secure the required approvals, and design mine infrastructure that is economic and operationally efficient.”
