Exploring the international hydrogen investment landscape
At a glance
Working together to accelerate the energy transition, the FCDO and British Consulate General, Houston, are collaborating to create attractive transparent investment market opportunities for hydrogen. As part of this effort, GHD has been commissioned to compile a ‘Hydrogen Look Forward’, providing insights and guidance across the US and UK Hydrogen markets.
This report provides the FCDO with a ‘Forward Look’ into the low-carbon hydrogen economies, exploring policy reviews and stakeholder engagement from the public and private sector. These learnings inform the FCDO on three focus areas:
1. Hydrogen Policy Landscape
2. Hydrogen Market Understanding
3. Hydrogen Forward Look
Gaining input from stakeholders in the hydrogen supply chain, including producers, policy makers, special interest groups, and lobbyists, the GHD team offer current state of play for each market and forward looking snapshot of where UK and US hydrogen economies are headed.
What does the future hold for transatlantic low-carbon hydrogen investment?
The hydrogen economy is growing exponentially. The UK’s reputation as a top global market for hydrogen combined with significant federal funding investment available in the US through the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), sees both regions poised for continued growth. So, where are the market or collaboration opportunities and how can they be taken forward?
GHD has identified exporting hydrogen solutions and services from the UK, leveraging cheap US hydrogen production for import, and setting international standards for hydrogen certification as three high priority focus areas for both the US and UK.
