The challenge
The challenge is to undertake a pre-investment due diligence review of Carbon America’s carbon capture and sequestration capital projects and proprietary technology under development for our client, a confidential investment consortium, to support their potential investment in Carbon America. Carbon America is a firm focused on developing carbon capture and sequestration opportunities.
Our response
We drew on our experience with carbon capture projects and technology development globally to perform the review that focused on:
- Capital project review of two Carbon America carbon capital sequestration projects: capacity to deliver, project definition, project planning, project schedule, capital cost, operations, and operating cost
- Technology review of Carbon America's proprietary carbon capture technology under development: technological readiness and achievement to date, technology, readiness level assurance, operations and maintenance requirements, and capital cost estimates for deployed technology.
The impact
Our due diligence review highlighted and quantified key risks to support the investment thesis, provided recommended next steps post-investment and enabled our client to make a duly considered decision before investment.
